Forum users can manually subscribe to topic so they receive a mailnotification when an other forum users adds a reply.
I there a way to subscribe users to all topics automatically.

I tried auto subscribe but is this the right way?

The website has thousands of user so I have to be sure it only sends the email to the users that use the forum.
Can someone please confirm that's the case?

Auto subscribe is for everyone AFAIK

@Timo-Breumelhof No, you have to select a role.
@wbonekamp I would recommend for testing to create a new role and only put a few users into it at first, then if it works, you can change to the 'Registered Users' role, assuming you want to have it go to everyone who is a registered user.

@wbonekamp That is exactly what it means. If you select "registered users", it will send to all registered users.

I see you can also set a specific role. What does that do? For now I only enabled the option "Auto Abonnement" no role selected

"I have a DNN site with thousands of users, but only a subset of those users actually use the forums but are not specifically in a particular role. I want anyone who uses the forums, regardless of role, to receive a notification when a post is made to a forum, but I don't want users to have to subscribe."

Feel free to create an issue to request it. I think it would be up to the community to determine how important that feature would be.

Another option which you could do now on your own would be to create a new role and select that for the auto-subscriptions. Then populate that role's members from a custom stored procedure or a trigger based on additions to the activeforums_content table;
