Close PPAs?

@RogueScholar @shoogle what do you think about closing the PPAs? They seem pretty much abandoned and I also get lots of e-mails because of build failures.

@TheAssassin, I've not touched the PPAs in several years. I don't mind if you close them or simply turn off the automated builds. I can do this for you if you want.

I think we can surely close the "dev" one and probably also the other one. I'd appreciate it if you took care of them.

I've set the build schedule on these Launchpad Recipies from "Built daily" to "Built on request", which basically means that automated builds are disabled:

• https://code.launchpad.net/~appimage-maintainers/libappimage/+git/libappimage/+recipes

I've added a deprecation notice to these PPAs:

• https://code.launchpad.net/~appimagelauncher-team/+archive/ubuntu/stable
• https://code.launchpad.net/~appimagelauncher-team/+archive/ubuntu/daily

The PPAs still exist but the packages in them will no longer be updated unless a manual build is requested.

If someone tries to install one of the PPAs, they should see the deprecation notice in their terminal.

Good idea to close them. In case it's of use/interest, this works for the masses who use Ubuntu for the stable release, 24.04:

Although maybe not... I had some issues with it and may be related to the fact that the .deb targets 22.04 not 24.04. A bit over my head so if anyone has knowledge in this area please let us know!

What would be the suggested approach for Ubuntu users to keep updated versions if no repository is up in the future?

There is still a continuous release with .AppImage, .deb, .rpm files. Only one of the distribution methods was deprecated, not the entire AppImageLauncher.

Well, I've just found this issue by going to the PPA from AppImageLauncher/README.md. I guess you should also update it to reflect that the PPAs are deprecated.
