Different docs directory for markdown files?

I was looking into using this plugin to pull in the CHANGELOG.md file from my github repo into Docusaurus. However, I have to put it in the docs/ directory for Docusaurus to find and render it. Is there a better way to organize downloaded markdown files so that it's easy to ignore them in .gitignore?
