just to toggle on and off the elements

As for your question: I don't think so, the closest thing seems to be switching from Complete to Optimal mode to disable cosmetic filtering in uBOL (but like I said - this is not exactly what you wanted):

Optimal mode = no generic CF.
Complete mode = full CF.
