IDE Freezes When Opening a Project

For the past few days, I've been facing a frustrating issue—every time I open a project, the IDE freezes completely. The interface becomes unresponsive, and the only way to close it is by forcefully terminating the process with kill -9.

As a temporary workaround, I delete the .idea directory, which allows me to continue working. However, this also erases all my build configurations (which include multiple documents), forcing me to reconfigure everything. I can use IDEA several times in a row, but then the issue suddenly reappears without any clear cause. While not impossible to manage, it significantly slows down my workflow.

I haven’t found any references to this issue in the forum, and I’m unsure how to diagnose it.

This problem only occurs in IntelliJ IDEA when Texify is enabled. Other JetBrains IDEs, like CLion and PyCharm, work without issues, leading me to suspect that the problem is related to the plugin.

Thanks for reporting this, because I have been fighting freezes recently, but they are often difficult to track down or reproduce.
To make sure this is not already fixed, could you try with an alpha release? https://plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/9473-texify-idea/edit/versions/alpha

If you can reproduce it, a snapshot as described in https://hannah-sten.github.io/TeXiFy-IDEA/troubleshooting.html#debugging-performance-issues would be really helpful.
Additionally, because we're using Kotlin coroutines now a snapshot is not always sufficient anymore, so logs would be helpful as well:

• go to Help > Diagnostic Tools > Debug Log Settings and add #nl.hannahsten.texifyidea.util.Log
• reproduce the issue, then upload idea.log (help > show log)

Interesting, I tried enabling this setting and opening a few projects, but didn't see any performance issue or freeze. Also, the code related to that setting shouldn't run just when a project is opened, so not sure what it could be. It would be really helpful if you could install the latest alpha version and collect a profiler snapshot.

Thanks a lot! I still cannot reproduce the problem, but I took my best guess, it is indeed related to the autocompile on save setting (and will only occur with that setting enabled).
Could you check if 0.10.2-alpha.5 fixes the problem?

If the problem is not yet fixed, maybe you have an idea what kind of actions you do shortly after a project open that trigger the problem.

I did not experience any problem with 0.10.2-alpha.5.
I'll keep auto-compile on and report if anything unusual happens.

As I can tell, the freezing is gone.
