Color Picker for Groups

Would it be possible to use a color-picker and icon-picker for JabRef Groups? It can be next to the line, as it seems that the color is defined by HEX anyway ...

Yes,that is a very good idea! And we can also use an an Icon selector.

The color picker is not complete implemented. The groups settings dialog still shows a HexValue #FFFFFF.

Clicking on it opens a nice color picker. I like it.
But the standard user would expect such a picker behind a simple string.

Show the color itself and style it like a button that the users can see she/he can click on it.

This is a good suggestion, but we are using a control from an external library for the color picker which sadly does not provide this functionality.

I have no idea about today Java ( I am from a generation where Swing was brand new).
But isn't there a standard/default GUI library for Java? In Python I would say it is Tkinter, Qt, Gtk. I am sorry, I have not to much background information about current Java librarys, but I have to say:

Please switch to one of the "standards" for the whole project. Not fixing bugs because of 3rd party libraries... I have heard this to often.

Also the groups tree ctrl is one of the candidates should completelty replaced.
