Drag and drop PDF import not working

From MacOS, it does not seem possible to drag-and-drop a PDF to link the file to an entry.

I can now confirm that sometimes it works. When JabRef is first launched, it works. Then, after multiple drag-and-drops, it stops working. Eventually I get this exception:

There is another, fully reproducible UI bug. When the PDF is first dragged on the main panel, one of the entries is highlighted. Then as the PDF is moved up or down, the highlighted entry will not change.

Thanks for the follow-up information.
By just looking on the stacktrace I fear that this is another bug in Java on MacOS X as there is nothing JabRef specific showing up... 😥

I didn't realize these were Java bugs, that's a pity.

I would like to test JabRef with the latest version of Java

I downloaded JRE 12 from Oracle. When I type java -version I correctly see java version "12.0.1" 2019-04-16 as expected. However, JabRef still wants to use the old (system installed, 1.8) version of Java, and I can't figure out how to get JabRef to use the newly installed version.

I was hoping to be able to do something like java -jar JabRef.jar but that won't work directly.

Is there a way I can test JabRef with a newer JRE on Mac?

JabRef currently only runs with Java 8, we are however trying to get it working with Java 11. But this might take some time

Hello. I'm reporting here, as the issue is still open, and it's somewhat related to the bug, but it might be Linux-version specific or it might belong to a different component.

For context, my configuration is as follows: I've set up the Copy, rename and link file option for Default drag & drop action and the External file links's Main file directory set.

Basically, I drag & drop, but the copied file is the original file, and the renamed copy is left in the original folder.

Here's an example of the behaviour (as I understand it should behave), for clarity, after Drag & Dropping.

Expected:

Actually occurring:

On MacOS Catalina running Java 13.0.1 I was able to replicate the issue with the same stacktrace. It's intermittent, and from googling the stacktrace it looks like an issue that happens across javaFX programs on Mac
