slideshow.sh

A simple tool for (auto)starting slideshows.

Setup

Clone or download this repository to your system. All you need is the slideshow.sh file.

Before starting, populate the desired directory with images of your choosing. Most common image formats should be compatible.

Currently, the slideshow reads images in alphabetical order, which typically shows images in chronological order. You can rename images to be in any order you like.

Prerequisites

Tested with Ubuntu 24.04, which contains all prerequisites by default.

Eye of Gnome (eog)

Image viewer with built-in slideshow functionality on a provided directory.

Autostart

A desktop environment that supports Autostart.

Usage

Navigate to the directory that slideshow.sh is located and run:

./slideshow.sh [directory]

If no directory is provided, the user is prompted for the directory to run the slideshow in.

If a directory is provided, the user is prompted to create an autostart file. If selected, the slideshow will start at the given directory upon reboot.
