This adjustment is only performed in basic, default scenarios to avoid interfering with custom or user-specific configurations.\n\nYou can skip this step by setting the `SKIP_FIX_PERMS=1`(since 8.0.2) environment variable.\n\n### Manually Setting File and Directory Permissions\n\nIf you prefer to handle file permissions yourself, you can use a `docker run` command to set the correct ownership on mounted volumes. Using this method means that there is no need for you to have a Dockerfile for your redis container.\n\nThe mapped directory should be writable, as depending on the configuration and mode of operation, Redis may need to create additional configuration files or rewrite existing ones.\n\n# Image Variants\n\nThe `redis` images come in many flavors, each designed for a specific use case.\n\n## `redis:<version>`\n\nThis is the defacto image. If you are unsure about what your needs are, you probably want to use this one. It is designed to be used both as a throw away container (mount your source code and start the container to start your app), as well as the base to build other images off of.\n\nSome of these tags may have names like bookworm in them. These are the suite code names for releases of [[Debian](https://wiki.debian.org/DebianReleases)](http://Debian](https://wiki.debian.org/DebianReleases)) and indicate which release the image is based on. If your image needs to install any additional packages beyond what comes with the image, you'll likely want to specify one of these explicitly to minimize breakage when there are new releases of Debian.\n\n## `redis:<version>-alpine`\n\nThis image is based on the popular [Alpine Linux project](https://alpinelinux.org), available in [the `alpine` official [image](https://hub.docker.com/_/alpine)](http://image](https://hub.docker.com/_/alpine)).
