- Thursday night concerts on the colonnade (free, near the Boardwalk)
- Community concerts and shows almost every night at Abbott Square in Downtown (free)
- Friday night movies on the beach (free, near the Boardwalk)
- Walk around downtown with ice cream from Penny Ice Creamery or Mission Hill Creamery
- Wander one of the local Farmers' Markets (Westside or Downtown locations)
- Learn to surf at Cowell's Beach
- Go for a hike on Upper Campus, connecting to either Wilder Ranch State Park or Pogonip (at Pogonip, try to find the koi pond or the historic lime kilns!)
- Visit the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk for rides, games, laser tag, mini golf, and amusement park food
- Explore UCSC's own Arboretum gardens
- Learn to dance Bachata, a Latin American social dance! Beginner class on the Westside every Tuesday at 7pm at Swift St Fitness: 509 Swift St., Unit H, (donation based)
- Learn Capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian martial art, Mondays - Thursdays at 6pm at Raizes Do Brasil: 207 McPherson St. (first class free, and ask for a student discount for future classes)
- Watch (or participate in) Salsa dancing on Tuesdays 7pm - 10pm at Abbott Square (free, in Downtown)
- Visit the iconic Natural Bridges State Beach. If you go during low tide, try going north up the coast to see tide pools with crabs, urchins, and starfish
- Try rock climbing at the local climbing gym, Pacific Edge. Website for hours and rates
