In line 85 of package mongodb/laravel-mongodb/src/Concerns/ManagesTransactions.php

i get this error:
Declaration of MongoDB\Laravel\Concerns\ManagesTransactions::transaction(Closure $callback, $attempts = 1, array $options = []): mixed must be compatible with Illuminate\Database\Connection::transaction(Closure $callback, $attempts = 1, ?Closure $onFailure = null)

This error occurs when upgrading Laravel from 12.8.* to 12.9.0 due to a change src/Illuminate/Database/Concerns/ManagesTransactions.php

This is PR with this problem: #55338

This error is critical because the connection to MongoDB doesn't work.

Upgrade to Laravel 12.9.0 with mongo connection

Please also open an issue on mongodb/laravel-mongodb. Maybe a patch can be implemented there.

Thanks I was think so @AndrewMast but... Is it normal for this kind of change — one that causes entire sites to stop working due to package incompatibilities — to happen in a minor Laravel version?

Agreed, but if we can get this fix to happen in the mongodb driver soon, we might be able to push the callback method tweak to another release instead of simply rolling it back.

You can replace this line in your composer.json:
"laravel/framework": "12.8.1"

instead of:
"laravel/framework": "*"

until this bug is fixed.

@taylorotwell I think introducing breaking changes in minor versions is a bad policy, especially when the default in composer.json is
"laravel/framework": "*"
...these kinds of changes can cause unexpected crashes, don’t you think?
