Describe Your Issue or Question

i am trying to make a custom portal page, by downloading template, edit the files then importing the files to the controller

That happens if any the files gets any modification
No modified files upload and work fine.
Custom file uploads for omada portal aren't working
The current browser does not support Omada Controller. Please upgrade to a newer version or use other browsers".

Expected Behavior

it should load any modified portal

Steps to Reproduce

go to portals
create new portal
enable it, enable hotspot authentication, voucher or local user
go to the option of editing portal page or login page, import custom
download template edit, zip and reupload by importing the zip files
try accessing the ssid locked behind portal and see if it loads the edited portal

OK, so I did a little bit more testing after some googling led me to another random java app's README on github where it mentioned creating a zip file from the CLI. This got me thinking that maybe there is something odd or malformed about the zipfile that is being created.

I did a test on my Mac, which is what I typically use.

I downloaded the template and extracted it
I edited the template's index.html just to have a simple change

Also, is this something that works outside of a container but doesn't work inside? I'm almost certain this is an application problem or a problem related to the Java version but not directly a containerization issue.

@mbentley could you be knowing the solution to this mystery.
I emailed tp link about the bug and they replied with evidence that there no such error when they did local tests on their end, tests were done on windows.

Create zip file from macOS context menu

I re-repacked the zip file using macOS's Compress right click context menu and tried to upload and access the portal
This failed with the error described above

Create zip file from macOS cli using `zip`

I also use windows and it doesn't work. I'm not sure what's the problem zipping it. Because when I tried to upload the downloaded zipped template and upload it it works fine. But when I unzip it and zip it again the error page shows up.

i took time to download template, unzip it, zip it again unmodified and uploaded, it worked fine
then i edited html in the template by changing the "log in" button text from "Log in" to "Submit", only that small change , ziped all files and tried uploading and i got the error

i got the impression zipping works fine if nothing is modified, everything breaks once even anything small is changed. This frustrated me for very many days.
if the zipping process is the problem, why does it work on unmodified files

I have omada controller v5.15.20.21 and I have zipped using the various compression modes of winrar, 7zip and windows built-in compression but the issue still persists.
I'm thinking it's a controller problem rather than something I'm doing wrong.
When I download the template and upload it again, it serves correctly.
But when I extract and rezip, I'm never successfull with it. As mentioned, zipping with the various compression modes doesnt change anything.

I just uploaded it. I used the normal compression for what i uploaded. I didnt make any changes to the files.
I can upload the actual folder i intend to upload if it works on your side.
But not sure the version of the controller I have running will work either with it.
By the way, what version are you running?

You need to archive the files directly and not include the extracted folder. Here is an example I created previously:

Yes, you are right, thanks for the heads up.

I believe this is what most people go through when they face this error.
We zip the demo_test, trusting the compression softwares to zip what we need instead of navigating into the demo_test/ folder, select all the files to zip.
That is what you addressed earlier here.

I navigated into the content of the directory and zipped the selection instead, and again, this does not work with windows built-in compression tool. Winrar worked set to normal compression.

Moving forward, to save time, could we push for a software feature to extract the folder within the zipped file if exists instead, as that is the go to for most compression softwares, even the CLI ones?

That would be up to TP-Link to implement that as a feature but I agree, it would be nice or at least do some validation and help guide the user to why it fails. You can provide feedback through their community forums or their support (links for these should be in the readme).
