This preliminary fix supports running npm installed on Windows within Windows Subsystem for Linux.

However, for the fix to take effect, it is required that the end of line character in and only in the npm file be \n even when installed on Windows.

  • make -j4 test (UNIX), or vcbuild test (Windows) passes
  • tests and/or benchmarks are included

  • commit message follows commit guidelines

Perhaps I should file the PR in the npm/cli repo.
