I thought I'll just pick up #3407 again and redo the work, since that seemed faster than fixing the conflicts.

There is references to the master branch in Datadog repositories outside of the dd-trace-js repo which needs to be updated as well (probably others as well, not captured in the linked search). One probably need to prepare these changes before landing this PR so they can all be merged as close to each other as possible while at the same time renaming the branch.
